Effective Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization and search positioning in the major search engines are treated like magic. Very few people seem to understand the process of optimizing sites for the search engines. There are lots of people who “think” they know how to optimize. The reality is usually quite different.
Actually getting good rankings in the search engines is not all that difficult and definitely not as tough as some of these SEO “gurus” would have you believe. There’s no special tricks or tactics needed. Just some solid principles that have always and will always work.
Here’s the scenario. Business A has a website created. After a month they check their search engine rankings and realize they have none. They then find an SEO company to sort this problem out. Several thousand dollars and a lot of disappointment later they’re back where they started. That’s not to say that every SEO company is bad–there are some very good SEO companies out there–but some of them will use tactics that get your site banned instead of ranked.
The analogy I would make is this. How many people with a copy of Frontpage do you hear yakking on about how they’re a “website designer”? You can probably name about 10 people offhand. Now how many of them are truly successful doing this? You can put all 10 fingers right back down again. The same applies to effective search engine optimization and marketing. Lots of people claim to know about it but very few actually do.
The shocking thing is seeing people paying out $5,000 – $20,000 for search engine marketing “experts” and quick fix software and scripts. That’s an insane amount of money to be paying anybody for something you can quite easily do yourself. Search engine optimization is far more affordable than most people know.
The simple truth is this – you can be your own search engine expert. You don’t need any of these expensive services. If you’re willing to put in a little time and effort you can get Top 10 rankings for your site. It takes time but it is possible. You don’t need to be a technical whizkid – most SEO methods are quite simple and once you’ve learned the basics you can use them on any website you want.
